THE BEST OF NEW YORK DESIGN WEEK

NOHO DESIGN DISTRICT

BOND ST. NOHO DESIGN DISTRICT
The best installations during this year’s Design Week were those in the Noho Design District presented by Sight Unseen.  Centered in Noho, THEE hub of downtown creativity, there were so many amazing installations.  So many indeed, we found it hard to attend everything, but somehow, we did! Here are our TOP PICKS:

Legge Brothers Makers & Brothers

The Irish duo behind Makers & Brothers presented an interactive showcase of contemporary Irish craft and design. In a small pop-up workshop, set up inside the front window of The Standard East Village Hotel, the Wicklow woodworker James Carroll crafted a series of three legged wooden stools based on an old Irish milking stool archetype.  As stools were produced, they were placed out for use around the room and the floor became full of wood chips, the physical manifestations of the process there for all to enjoy!

American lighting brand Roll & Hill‘s temporary showroom featured  the company’s full collection, along with new products for 2012, including Blow by Lindsey Adelman, Mini Endless by Jason Miller, Rudi Series by Lukas Peet, and Silk Road by Jonah Takagi. Our favorite was Lukas Peet‘s Rudi Series–a series of pendant lamps that literally hang from their electrical cords knotted around the metal tubes. Inspired from jewelry and named after Peet’s father, the lamps are made from bent brass that hold handmade cold cathode lamps.  They looked amazing when illuminated;  the space was transformed into a gold color.
