Specializing in modern and contemporary art, the Guggenheim Museum has been displaying ‘Gutai: Splendid Playground’ since mid-February. The art movement Gutai is Japanese post-war art, originated from the trauma of World War II. It is the first U.S. museum exhibition solely dedicated to Gutai.
The show is not only aimed to show the historical art, but also how the Gutai art felt like. There have also been other exhibitions on Japanese art related to war. However, none of the shows have been as lively and interactive as the one in Guggenheim.
It is easier to experience ‘Gutai: Splendid Playground’, rather than trying to explain it. The exhibition ends soon on May 8th so be sure to check it out before it leaves!
