ICFF NY Design opened its doors! Finally time of the year to visit Noho Design District again. What better occasion than this for upcoming designers to show their works? It was great to just walk around Bond St., Great Jones St, Bowery and Green St. and contemplate the very best in terms of design. Designers from all over the world had the chance to show their new design items created with all sort of materials and also with a special attention to environment sustainability.

In Bowery St. we find Environment that in collaboration with Commune created a timeless contemporary collections for the home that respect our planet envisioning sustainability as an advantage to trigger creativity and push the boundaries of furniture design.

The Future Perfect, in Great Jones St., presented the SCP collection 2013 of new upholstery furniture and lighting creating high-quality design of genuine provenance.

Vitsoe in Bond St. promoted a casual way of living through its new Vitsoe chair and shelves production, completely re-engineered right down to the last purpose-designed stainless-steel bolt.

If you are looking for extraordinary lighting designs Ingo Maurer, between Green and Grand St., is just what you are looking for! He simply loves the unexpected creating exquisite lamps using the most unconventional objects.

Last but not least don’t forget The Shop by MySuites that just opened! Stop by and enjoy all the great design pieces from the best upcoming and local designers from NYC and Brooklyn. Can we pour you a cuppa SPRESSO?

Spresso is all about smart and practical design, it gathers an in-house photography and design department, and a network of copywriters, programmers and printers, that service a client base that spans the globe. From a modest start-up Geralda van der Es cultivated SPRESSO design studio into the full-service agency it is today. In 2005 Wendy Dekker joined the design team and Frederique Slingenberg works her magic on the financial part. Together they have reach the 100% design we are all looking for. It is all about conceptualizing what you really want. From bold colors, to clean lines and monochronome designs. Spresso creates that bridge between consumer and designer, that connection within design we are all looking for and sometimes is missed in the process of creating.

Good design is design that “works”, that communicates its intended message while captivating the audience. Thats why SPRESSO developed a four step commandment for a perfect design. First they concentrate in the deep orientation and research. Once they nailed their objectives and translate the wishes into concepts, they deliver the firsts designs which are presented and analyzed. After they have pleased the costumer 100%, then the magic happens and the designs enter the production state. Good, right?

MySuites and SPRESSO conceptualized NYC by the block, and we are currently working on this project. We couldn’t have picked a better duo for this project and we are very excited about it. Yes, The SHOP by MySuites is open and we’re participating in the ICFF INTERNI NY Designweek! Friday May 17th designloving people came to take a look in our shop. Pieces of best upcoming local designers in Brooklyn and NYC were presented and you could buy all the pieces from special totebags to a red vintage tv. If you couldn’t make it to the opening, you can always stop by during the working hours to see what’s in the store.

ICFF NY Design Week is here and we’re pumped. We’re really excited to go to the ever amazing NoHo Design District and check out all the design and special events going on. Last year was awesome and this year, we’re sure Bond St, Great Jones St and Bowery will be filled with nothing but the best design. But what we are most excited about is our long awaited opening of The SHOP by MySuites. Yes, it’s been already up online, but we are finally setting up shop for all the amazing design pieces we get from the best upcoming local designers–NYC and Brooklyn. Some of the pieces in The SHOP are also in the suites for our guests to buy as part of our Take-It-Home. The opening cocktail is tomorrow, Friday May 17th from 6-8pm. We invite you all to stop by and see what’s in store. And if you can’t make it to the opening, just drop by anytime during our business hours, we’re pretty sure you don’t want to miss it. We had such a blast at the opening day of The Frieze Art Fair on Randall’s Island this past weekend. A massive range of art was exhibited, from paintings, photography to installations, performances, and sculptures; something for the likes of everyone. Even though it’s only on its second year of life, it surely did not disappoint, it’s the best around for Pop Art. Here are some works that caught our eye….

Looking for the best tea shop in town? You have to go to Sullivan Street Tea and Spice Company. A very cute shop in Greenwich Village NYC with a wonderful selection of reasonably priced, quality teas. You can find hundreds of organic teas, herbs and spices from all over the world. Not to worry if you don’t know anything about the specialities, the staff behind the counter are super polite and knowledgeable and aren’t afraid to give some very good advice. An organic bulk shop that’s a great place to get your tea and to find a present for the tea aficionado among other little things like potted plants, essential oils and infused salts which decorate the shelves and give the shop a very home-y feeling.

Even if you just want to refresh from the New York heat, then you can stop by and try the fresh, homemade iced tea, just delicious!

Exhibit: Andy Warhol ‘Lost Then Found’ by Steve Wood

If you get a chance, pop in the 345Meatpacking Gallery and see Andy Warhol’s “Lost Then Found” on display until May 12th. British photographer, Steve Wood, rediscovered the portraits of Andy Warhol that he took at a French hotel in Deauville in 1981. The portraits were not published at the time and Wood simply filed them away under W, and luckily they are now on display.

The pictures show a more real Andy Warhol and there is something very special about these images. Their sudden appearance is like meeting Warhol himself, away from the crazy and glamourous New York lifestyle he led.
The portraits display the real living man with his infamous pale skin and thinness. It seems that Warhol’s sunflower is a sweet homage to an art hero of that age – Vincent van Gogh.
