Recently we had Anna Rice, the travel and style blogger behind the Blonde Banana Blog, over for a little staycation in our new Plaza Suite! We love to have bloggers visit us so we can share their experience in our suites and their recommendations for our guests. We also know plenty of our guests and fans enjoy following travel and style bloggers, so we’ve got Anna back for a quick interview to share what she’s all about:
MySuites: Hi Anna, thanks for having a little staycation with us. First please introduce yourself and your blog.
Anna: Thank you for having me! My blog is called the Blonde Banana, and my main focus is stylish travel. I love to visit new destinations and find the coolest “off the beaten path” restaurants, bars, shops and neighborhoods. The main difference between myself and many other travel bloggers is that I actually have a full time job. So you’ll find a lot of short vacation ideas, weekend getaways, and local New York-based tips on my site.
MySuites: Plenty of us are dreaming of travelling somewhere a little warmer right about now. With you in NYC I’m sure you feel the same. Have any recent sunny destinations you’d visited recently or would recommend?
Anna: I went to Marrakech, Morocco for New Year’s and the weather was great. During our winter is the perfect time to go there – it’s sunny and about 75 degrees during the day, and cool enough to wear a leather jacket at night. I’m not a big beach person so this was the perfect winter escape for me. The shopping there is incredible, I basically redecorated my entire apartment from things I found in the souks.
MySuites: Do you have any upcoming trips planned you can share?
Anna: Next month I’ll be going to Denmark and Norway. I’ve never been to Scandinavia before so I’m very excited!
MySuites: Since you also like to blog about style and fashion, do you have a favourite piece of clothing or have something on your shopping list to survive the cold winter we’re having?
Anna: I have an amazing puffer coat from a Canadian outerwear company called LaMarque. It’s warm but not too bulky so I don’t look like a shapeless blob. Hats are also essential! I bought a bunch of handmade wool hats from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco the first time I went, and everyone always asks me where I got them. When I went back for a second time, I had to buy about 10 hats for my friends who requested them!
MySuites: You’re also part of a PR agency, can you share a bit about your work?
Anna: Of course! I work in fashion public relations and handle media relations, marketing and blogger outreach for a number of fashion brands. I’m always crazy busy at work because there’s something new to work on every day – I love it.
MySuites: You had the chance to try out our new Plaza Suite in Midtown, what was a favorite part of the suite or of the experience staying in it?
Anna: I really loved the vanity mirror in the bedroom (I posted a photo to my Instagram). It was the perfect place to get ready for the day or night. The location of the suite was also super convenient to taxis and all the subway lines so I could get anywhere in a snap.
MySuites: For our visiting guests new to the Plaza Suite’s neighborhood, how would you describe it to them?
Anna: The Plaza Suite is located in Midtown, which gets a bad reputation from jaded New Yorkers but for visitors it’s actually quite convenient. You have the endless assortment of restaurants in Hell’s Kitchen just a few minutes walk away, the Broadway theaters are within steps, and Times Square is right there so you can catch practically all the subway lines. It’s also just a short walk from Central Park, which everyone loves no matter how long they’ve been here! There are also plenty of 24-hour drugstores, restaurants, etc. in the blocks around the Plaza Suite so if you like to stay out late, this area is for you.
MySuites: Thanks for your time with us Anna and enjoy your trip to Scandinavia!
Make sure to check out her full post on her stay in the Plaza Suite at BlondeBananaBlog.com.

The Plaza Suite is the newest addition to the MySuites collection of boutique suites. This luxury apartment is our first right in Midtown, making it a departure from our usual neighborhoods. While all our suites give easy access around Manhattan, now we have a high-end option for anyone wanting to steps from tourist hotspots like Central Park, Times Square, Broadway and the Theater District. International landmarks like the MoMA, Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall are only a block away from our prime location. It’s also a great apartment and location for any business travellers looking for a stylish alternative to the standard corporate extended stay or executive rental suite in NYC.
You’ll be greeted by a doorman as you arrive at the new Plaza Suite. Up on the 15th floor you’ll find a lux 2-bedroom apartment with a fully equipped kitchen and living room. The interior design is by our MySuites&Co team and leans towards a slick speakeasy-era NYC feel. Highlights include vinyl and photographs of New York music icons decorating the walls and a mix of vintage furniture and Philippe Starck chairs. Two separate rooms include TVs with cable and sleep two adults each, making this suite also perfect for two couples or if you’re travelling with kids. The building gives access to a landscaped roof deck, fitness and laundry services.
Like with all our suites, we’re happy to offer services to match a boutique hotel or make you feel right at home. With an available concierge, driver service, room service, grocery delivery, ensuite chef and more. For more info on how you can enhance your stay with us, click here.

FlipKey from Tripadvisor is a great vacation rental booking site that our guests and also our staff use (if we’re trying to escape the crazy winter we’ve been having!). We’re of course happy to include our boutique suites on FlipKey to connect with travellers searching for something a little different for their NYC vacation. And we’re very flattered to have so many guests leave kind reviews of their stay with us, so we just want to share a few recent favorites with you :)
“In Love With Gramercy Location!” - 5/5 Stars
“My husband and I are New Yorkers, both working in fashion in the UES. We were between leases so we gave MySuites a try till we got settled. At check-in, we found athena to be very pleasant and more than helpful! She made it easy for us to get settled in, comfortable, and took time to make sure all of our questions were answered.
You might say we were a bit taken with all the information provided to us by the “In The Hood” guided tour they sent us and information posted in our suite. It was a nice touch to have and we really put it to use! We loved stopping into Molly’s pub, but our favorite was the bar Jamon by Casa Mono!
We had an amazing time, in our comfortable and extremely stylish accommodation called the Butter Suite! It almost has that Scandinavian wood spa feel with its’ cozy chic interiors, romantic sleeping area that provided the perfect movie night, and comfortable living space that our company truly enjoyed as well! Thank you for everything! You guys rock!” – NYC Staycation, NYC/UES, October 2013
“Hanging with New York’s ‘beautiful people’“ - 5/5 Stars
“My 16 year old daughter and I have just returned from 10 wonderful days in New York. We had originally booked The Christopher Suites. There had been some issues with the heating the weekend before our arrival so we were moved to The Deluxe Standard Suite [part of the Meatpacking Suites Collection]. We were initially disappointed when we received an email notifying us of the move – we needn’t have worried. Our new abode was everything we could have wanted.
The position was fabulous – The Meatpacking District is where you want to be if you like good food, great shops and hanging with ‘the beautiful people’. Sylivo, our relations manager, made sure we had everything we needed and he was always available at the end of the phone. He even dropped us in some of the most delicious cakes we have ever eaten.” - Jane O, Sydney, December 2013
“Gem in the heart of the West Village” - 4/5 Stars
“We absolutely loved staying in the Hamilton Suite [part of the Christopher Suites Collection]. From the moment we arrived, Silvio helped us with all our needs and the cute, minimalist, all white apartment became our home away from home in New York. The apartment’s finishes are very charming and reminded us of staying in an apartment in Paris. Walk out the door and you are steps away from hundreds of cafes, restaurants, and bars. We would love to stay here again!” - Ali, Vancouver, January 2014
“Charming!” - 5/5 Stars
“It was perfect for me! It made me feel like home ! Cozy with great decor! I loved the location and the ambiance… Everything went pretty smoothly from the check in to a guide on what to do around the area! Super friendly!” [stayed in the LA East Suite] - Lucas, Miami, January 2014
“Funky apartment close to major attractions” - 4/5 Stars
“Met at the apartment by a friendly, attentive manager. The Pop Loft suite [part of the NoMad Suites Collection] is at the back of the building and quiet for NYC! It is clean and basic and has everything you need – can even cook a full meal if you wish, especially with Whole Foods market close by. It is just a walk to the Empire State Building and major shopping district and within easy reach of much that you want to do in NYC.” - Linda Scott, Sydney, December 2013
“Gorgeous Stay!!!” - 5/5 Stars
“Stayed only for 1 nite, but did not want to leave!! Took the opportunity to surprise my boyfriend with a birthday party! Location was convenient to get to. Great for entertaining several groups! Was very clean and ready as soon as we arrived. Great ambiance, lighting, and and comfortable temperature. Wonderful nite was had by all! We slept like babies in the comfortable king size bed. Would highly recommend and I hope to be back soon!!” [stayed in the Bowery Suite] - James N, Queens, November 2013

“Just Right” 5/5
“My Suites and Sylvio were fantastic… easy to work with, no issues whatsoever. I stayed in the Christopher Suites. The apt met my expectations. Clean, well organized, all the necessary amenities. It was very nice for one or two people. We were two and stayed five nights. The neighborhood is great… lots of shops, restaurants, bars, music.. A gourmet market across the street… A subway station on the corner. The only negative was the music from a bar a few doors down could be heard late on Friday and Saturday night, but not loud… mostly just bass noise. Otherwise the apt was surprisingly quiet. I plan to rent from them again.” -Lovethecroc, CA, December 2013
“Great Location!” 5/5
“This loft was absolutely perfect for my birthday girls trip! There were 5 of us and we fit just perfectly in this very stylish loft [NoMad Suites]! Chelsea is such a beautiful area and perfect walking distance to just about everything! Would definately stay here again!” -Amy C, Texas, October 2013
“I stopped at the Standard deluxe suite by Mysuites at the Meatpacking district. The standard deluxe is a loft type of suite. I was in awe when I saw it. It’s simple yet very edgy and fashion-forward. The place is neat. I liked the idea of climbing up the stairs to get to your bed. This is because I’m athletic and active. For those who doesn’t like the climb, don’t worry, there’s a twin bed on the first floor. I felt like I was home because the amenities were complete. There’s TV, cable, wifi, fridge, microwave, oven, dishwasher, blow dryer, iron — yes and an iron board. For those of you who would like to stay in and cook for some nights, you can! It has a kitchen which has everything you need to make a full set meal. For those who are a little fussy when it comes to the bathroom, i have good news. It’s clean and white with a tub made out of Carrara marble.
Moreover, I loved how strategic the location was. The meatpacking district is where the nice restaurants, lounges, bars and clubs may be found. These are the the must-sees for tourists like me. It’s a quick 5 minute walk to 9th ave where most of the happening is. I got to go to Soho House, dined at Manon at 14th Street, Pastis at 9th ave. and Revel found in 12th Street. I got to experience the best roof deck experience at Gansevoort Hotel, Ph-d at Dream Hotel in 16th Street and of course, Standard Hotel. To complete my night-out, I partied in Cielo on 12th Street and Le Bain at the Standard Hotel. There’s also the Chelsea Market on 9th ave for those who wish to try out fresh catch and extra ordinary food. Again, thanks to MySuites for 3 amazing stays at their suites!” -MissALEJAR, Philippines, November, 2013
“Great launching pad” 4/5
“We do holiday rentals regularly all over the world. We found the service with Mysuites to be the best we have experienced. From the reservation process, checkin and follow up during our stay was all very professional with quick responses to emails and questions. Perfect location [Nolita Suites] with so many good restaurants within minutes walk. We will be back. Simon, Jodie & Santino.” -A Flipkey verified reviewer, Cayman Islands, November, 2013.
“Such a beautiful home design! Perfect if you are tired of hotels and want to feel yourself at home. Ideal bed and shower – the most important things in hotel. Very fresh and clean suite [Butter Suite]. Got some ideas for my home from them ;)
Great location! Deli, liquor, nails salon, dry-cleaners – everything around. 15 minutes by walk to Union Square. Better than the regular hotel. Want to try all of the MySuites!” -A Flipkey verified reviewer, Barcelona, December 2013

The NoMad District
NoMad is New York City’s youngest district (With the name appearing first around 1999) and has become one of the most exciting in recent years. With Chelsea on its west border and Flatiron District on it’s south, this central location has seen plenty of growth through the last decade, putting it on locals’ and visitors’ radars. The neighborhood has kept its low-key appeal, but now with a mix of high-end.
Today, its also a growing hub for creatives of all kinds, from modern architecture and interior design firms, to visual artists and boutique fashion designers. For cuisine, you can find yourself grabbing a sandwich a the new Melt Shop location to sitting down for an all-night tasting menu on the NoMad Hotel Rooftop with chefs Will Guidara and Daniel Humm. So if you’re hungry it doesn’t matter if you want something casual or gourmet, you’ll be in foodie heaven either way. The expanding appeal of the area has brought in a selection of boutique hotels to accommodate the increasing visitors , with the famed Ace Hotel already a modern landmark.

|Saturday, November 2, marked the third fall Brooklyn VintageCrawl. Leave it to the NYC subways to always provide entertainment! Our first stop was Antoinette on Grand St where we met the darling owner, Lexi, who offered us free wine while we browsed through an impressive collection of vintage clothing, shoes, and trinkets. We couldn’t resist the taco truck outside, either. No disappointments there.Just our luck! Lexi is good friends with Kathryn Irby, cofounder of the Vintage Crawl, who was hanging out in Antoinette. She’s a total Brooklyn chick- has lived in BK for almost ten years now. She started the crawl to help out some of her friends who owned small Brooklyn businesses and couldn’t afford PR. It was a great way to get people to come out for hot deals on unique gems found in these vintage shops. She’s had a tremendous response since 2011, and the Vintage Crawl has been happening twice-annually ever since. After chatting with Kathryn, we stopped into Skinny Dennis, the best little Williamsburg honkey tonk, for a tall hard apple cider. This dive bar makes you feel like you just catapulted back in time- like you’re hanging with Willie Nelson and Lana Del Rey out in the desert somewhere. The Pine Barons‘ “Psych-folk-harmonious-americana-rock and roll” is such a unique sound, you have to hear it for yourself. The lead singer’s voice is deep and soothing, reminiscent of Jonny Cash. The rare 1960s Western decor and homey environment could’ve kept us for a few more ciders but we had to get going to the next shop.
Malin Landaeus wants her shop to feel like a good friend’s closet. She succeeds in her vision; the store is very homey with tons of items to sift through. Her special for the vintage crawlers was a collection silk blouses that were dyed with pastel paint. The effect was stunning. Beautiful jewelry and boots are to be found here. Also, stop in for vegan baked goods and tea most Sundays starting at 4pm, and have a chat with Malin.
Next, we stumbled into a hidden art gallery in the back of About Glamour. The pleasant surprises and cultural diversity of Williamsburg are incredible. On our way to the next shop, the sun was setting, and we enjoyed an irish guitarist on the corner of Bedford Avenue.

They stumbled into the Ace Hotel Lobby, a great place to catch an afternoon latte and chat, study, or take a silly picture in the vintage photo booth.|
|We could spend hours exploring the flower and jewelry districts, just steps from our Mini Suite, Pop Loft, and Xx Suite. We never fail to find unique vintage furniture or cool knick-knacks at the antique shops on W. 25th St. We love receiving comments and feedback on our suites via our social media platforms! It helps us to continue to deliver the chic interiors and inspirational posts you love!|

|During my last trip to New York, before I move to the city, I decided to spend a night in the Nolita district. The Bowery Suite is the perfect location for a fun stay in this hip area of downtown. This beautiful suite is very close to several great design shops, restaurants and bars. My day started with a massage and other relaxing at the Great Jones spa. The spa has an amazing water lounge with pools, saunas, steam rooms and also a 3-story waterfall. After that, it was time to check out some design stores in the neighborhood. First I went to Future Perfect which has really unique contemporary furniture. I am deeply in love with the knotty bubbles chandelier. Its style is both rustic and modern….just a unique lighting piece. After I stepped into Environment, another modern furniture store just around the block that has beautiful design pieces made with sustainable unfinished wood. Moreover, if you need some creative inspiration you must check out Partners & Spade. This shop opens only on weekends and features a hodgepodge of found objects, sculpture, framed artwork and design books. If you are short of gift ideas, this is the right place for you! After a whole day walking around the city finally it was time to have the perfect meal! I headed over to, a super cute Italian restaurant at the Bowery Hotel. This hot spot is always very crowded so we left our name on the wait list and we decided to go to Hecho, in Dumbo, for some authentic Mexican appetizers. We tried the Tostada de Aguachile and the Queso Fundido de Huitlacoche and they were both delicious. If you don’t want to go to Dumbo you could also wait and have a drink at the Lobby Bar in the Bowery Hotel. After a quick bite of mexican culture we went back to Gemma’s for our dinner. This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the good cuisine with friends on the outdoor patio of the restaurant. The Fritto Misto is excellent and I definitely recommend to try it. There are lots of nightlife spots in the Nolita district so going from one place to one another just takes a short walk, which is great especially if you are wearing high heels! So after dinner we went to Wise Men, a hip and cozy bar with well-crafted specialty cocktails. My favorite is the Classic French. The next stop was Bathtub and Gin. This swanky spot serves pre-prohibition era cocktails and it is hidden behind a door of the Stone Street Coffee Company. There is a real bathtub too! Our night ended at Kings Cross, an unmarked underground speakeasy. Just look for a big clock and a steep stairway on the exterior of the building to find this basement hideaway. This magic spot has a laid back vibe and is ideal to grab a drink any day of the week. Finally it was time to head back to the Bowery Suite to get my beauty rest.|
